Hey all,

I'm thinking about purchasing a 2007 Hyundai Elantra with around 30k miles on it. Just wondering what are the biggest issues with Hyundais, or annoyances? I really like the 07 model but I'm wondering if people are having a ton of issues, or the car has problems like "the a/c/heat doesnt blow hard enough". I plan on getting a 100k bumper to bumper warranty from my credit also. Just looking for input on the car.

 

If you scan down through the Elantra forum on this site, I think you will find few issues specific to the 2007 model. Seems to be a fairly solid car, which is why the 2008 model year was selected by Consumer Reports as the top recommended small car. The fuel pump recall for the 2008 model does not apply. Annoyances? Double check on how the automatic door locks engage. On some Hyundai models the door locks are not activated by the engaging the shifter, but are speed sensitive. Seems straight forward, except the cars usually came with the feature totally deactivated. A dealer has to activate them with a scantool. I found it annoying that I had to go back to the dealer to get my door locks working as expected.

Be aware that you inherit what is left of the original factory 60,000 mile/5 year bumper-to-bumper warranty. You do not benefit from the 100,000 mile/10 year powertrain warranty. Hyundai dealers tend to be sticklers about documented routine service before honoring warranty claims. Make sure the car receives the 30,000 mile service since a transmission flush is involved (I assume the car is an automatic). If you buy an extended warranty, read the fine print. High deductable costs tend to negate the benefits expected from such warranties.

 

Don't wast your money on the extra warranty, it will cost you additional $800+, and is worthless as ***** on a boar hog!
