The trans fluid should be changed at 60,000 miles. If you don't do that service and the trans goes, yes, you would void the warranty. But a trans service shouldn't be $600.

A broken sensor is a "disaster"? I usually think of a hurricane, tornado, earthquake, tsunami, etc as disasters. A 16 year old sensor breaking is more of an annoyance.
