Default Anyone’s paint deteriorating?

I have a black 2003 Sante Fe and the paint below the window on the back tailgate is streaked and dull. I don't know if this is caused by windshield washer fluid dripping down on the paint? I have noticed a few other black Sante Fe's driving around and can see it on theirs as well. I have had other vehicles with the windshield wiper on the back window and have never had a problem with the paint doing this. I will be calling Hyundai in my area today but have not had much luck dealing with them on other problems I have had. Would appreciate any replies or info anyone might have.

We just got our 2004 Santa Fe about two weeks ago so I'm gonna put a few coats of wax on that area tonight when I get home. Let us know what Hyundai says about it please.

Hey Roy,

Just wanted to let you know that I have done the wax thing. I also had to pay extra for the black colored paint because they said it was metallic. I think that was bull and just a few extra bucks in their pocket.

I am a Hyundai owner and I also sell them for a living... the paint is a hot issue... a few years ago, due to environmental and health concerns, manufacturers were forced to remove the lead from automotive paint. (Lead was what made the paint strong)... after doing this, they could no longer warranty the paint to any real extent... dealerships generally offer a paint protection package to offset the deficiency in manufacturers warranties. Find out if you have this aftermarket option... if you do, then the company who provides the paint protection usually offers a warranty on their product. In some cases they will pay to have the whole vehicle repainted...

Hope this helps

My 99 Elantra is on it's third paint job and next my 02 Sonata, it doesn't appear that there is a way around this, just wax it keep it dry and out of direct sun. If you do re-paint it there are good paints and bad paints that will make a difference as does who paints the car for you and the prep work they put into it!!

it's happening to my wife's 97 Elantra, but just on the bumpers and wing (fiberglass parts)-it hasn't happened to my accent yet- I have waxed both cars every 60 days since we brought them home

Paint is a big issue with the HYundai line. Though it is a pain if the warranty doesn't cover the cost I suggest paying the 3000 and get a professional paint job from a shop of whatever color you please. Outcome: no more crappy Korean paint and now it's personalized. That's my spin on it.

And here I thought the crappy finish was because of the sand blasting the car received in New Mexico the first 11 years of her life-1992 Scoupe-NO payments-it seemed as though the top coat/sealer was oxidizing at first Tried waxing-no luck. Tried polishing compund-no luck. Tried rubbing compound-no luck. Tried sand paper-that's the ticket! You may think I'm kidding-it had gotten to the point that if you touched the car the finish would just flake off. Sand paper and fresh seal coat NO payments just elbow grease.

That is a good point. If just your clear coat is coming off you only have to hit it with a light garde of wet sand and then re-apply the clear coat. Way to go Hippiechick.
