Default 03 Sonata Alt. problem

My original alt battery wire corroded and broke at post on back of alt. Shorted and smoked wire back about 6 inches. Replaced wire and installed new rebuilt alternator. Worked fine charging 13.8 volts and only lasted for 4 minutes and has no output. Assuming a bad rebuild exchanged for second one and it did the exact same thing.I find it hard to believe both were bad. Could something else have been damaged to signal alt to charge when wire shorted and melted?

It's really hard to say exactly what is wrong, but the general answer is that something is burnt and smoked. I would guess it is the next thing the burnt wire was attached to.

Thanks, jsinton. The wire goes back to the 120 amp slowblow fuse on positive post on battery. Replaced that fuse and heavy gauge wire to alt. I discovered last night if I disconnect battery for a few minutes something resets and allows it to make voltage for about 3 minutes and then shuts off. I need to find were the multi pin plug hooked to back of alt goes and if itconnects to anelectronic module that could have a bad component on it resulting from the shorted wire. Very frustrating.
