2001 Elantra GLS tachometer not working 5 Sp

RE: 2001 Elantra GLS tachometer not working 5 Sp
Time for the the update
I stopped at junk yard today and after 20 mins found another cluster to replace mine. Since I still had the dash apart I put it in.
It ran me $23 with a battery hold down and a plastic red lens for the pass door.
All worked.
BUT WAIT that would be tooooo fast and easy.
I noted on my drive home I lost 30 K miles. So you know what had to be done next
I pulled the tach from one cluster and put in the other. FUN, FUN, FUN
I pealed back the back cover and pulled the needle stop out. Also there are two small skews on the front of the dial under the black plastic flexable thing that shows all the numbers.
Remember how I said the old one read 3K all the time. The fix to that was to keep the plastic front off when I had the car running and stick it on to the reading I thought it should read.
800 rpms at warm idle??
Well it works now and I am including a picture for anyone wanting to pull there heir out.
This shows the tach part of the cluster. The tach is on the right and part facing up would be up against the black flex plastic that has to be held over to remove the skews.
I also had to replace the gas and coolant light. I used other ones from my old cluster that would not light too often, like the charge light. I also had to move the green caps over because the charge light did not have one
Good luck and feel free to ask questions.

Good job on solving and documenting the problem. Most state DVMs have paper work you should file when replacing the odometer with either a new or used one. Usually requires an inspection by a patrolman or DVM official. Yes, this is a hassle but you will suffer far fewer hassles when you try to sell the car to someone else.

Well it's off 5 or so miles since I think that is about the distance from the yard to the house. I just want to keep the miles right for the records. 5 speeds are to save $$$ on not to sell until they are a few steps away from the junk yard like my 97 Elantra with 186K miles on. Oh how I wished I kept up with the rust. Big time rust under the driver door and holes in the back yoke. I will miss the car when it goes. 9 years is a long time for me with one car.
Thanks and keep it rolling.
