ABS pump

ABS pump
Hi had a problem with my 2008 Tucson, the brakes were grabbing thought I had a calliper problem, the garage said I needed new pads, disc and callipers at the rear. After these were changed he called and said the ABS pump has to be changed, and that no code had shown up when he checked, said he could try and get it repaired. Tried two company’s with no luck. I have been looking for a second hand pump after a long search I found one which seemed to be the same model, the garage are now saying they are not sure they could get a second hand pump to work. Cannot buy new even if I wanted to, they have stopped suppling them.
So I’m am left with a bill for the work he has done with a car still off the road, am I going to have to scrap a perfectly good car because the ABS has gone? Be grateful for your thoughts on this.

I am a little puzzled regarding the explanation
of why you need a new ABS pump.
The ABS is supposed to release and reapply the brakes in a panic stop.
Brakes grabbing in normal braking can be caused by grease or fluid getting on the surfaces which should have been corrected by replacing the listed parts.
What may be happening, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,if they are not sure they need a scan tool to operate the ABS valves in the ABS module assy.,in order to remove the trapped air in the brake hydraulic system, they might be condemning a good part. Hopefully this is not the case.

Hi , thanks for the replies, Sorry not very mechanical minded, it was an intermittent problem when it happened it felt like driving over gravel, so I thought calliper or Abs. The garage did a test drive and heard it, once in the garage I got a call telling me it was the calliper and it had damaged the disc. Once this work had been completed I got a call telling me that the Abs pump was faulty, the brakes were locked and they could not release them. They have tried sending the unit away to be repaired to two places with no joy.
I have searched the internet and found a guaranteed second hand unit, the part numbers all seem to match but the garage is reluctant to fit it for us.
they want to bypass the Abs so I can get the vehicle back home and out of their garage.
Think I am going to have to find someone who will fit a second hand unit for us, see if that works.
like I say have limited knowledge i have changed brake pads before but this sounds a little out of my comfort zone.
thanks

Yeah, it is out of my comfort zone too.
Because I think one might need a scan tool to operate the ABS unit to bleed the brake lines.
I simply don't know for sure.
Changing the unit seems simple enough
Take old pump out and put 2nd hand pump in.
This includes brake lines and electrical connectors.
Bleed brakes.
Could there be an issue with the electrical wiring to the ABS unit??
This garage doesn't sound all that competent???

Hi, thanks for your reply. Yeah not impressed with the garage handling of the problem, have had work done before and had no problems, but like the blind leading the blind with this one.
I think I will get the second hand pump and find another garage that can do it.
thanks again
