Going to try 05 tuscon timing belt
I guess im going to attempt to replace the timing belt on a 05 Tuscon for my kids mom car. Its a money thing, which is why im going to attempt this. Between the repair information on the autozone site and the manual on Alldatadiy site it seems like its pretty straight forward.
Anyone here done this that can give me any advice to potential problems or tools I may need? I noticed they have kits that replace the tensioner, should that be replaced as well?
Thanks

whoops meant to leave engine info, its the 4cly one. Wish I could let the professionals do it but I dont have that kind of money. Also wish I knew about the Hyundai service site before I forked over money at alldatadiy :P. I am assuming on the replacement of the belt I only have to go as far as the removal of the belt procedure and reverse order?

These pics are in Elantra, same as Tucson 2.0 4 cylinder.. The P/S pump was removed to do the water pump, you will leave it in its mounting, the idler pulley with blue seal on the cat was removed for water pump replace, anlong with the lower cover (you can unbolt lower cover and leave it flap in place, flip belt off and pull it out the top.. push the new belt into cover, reach in with fingers and set belt on crank cog, slip it around the idler, holding tight on the "pull" side of the belt, loop it onto the cam gear, and around the tension pulley, set tension, and lock the pulley bolt. Verify timing marks correct, re-assemble.

Basic hand tools, and an impact to knock the crank bolt loose and tighten.. 5mm allen wrench for the tension pulley, but I do mine with long bar for the early, 5mm allen for the late (seen in pic).. The early is a trick adjustment, need to roll it to get pointer past the lock hole, then stick a piece of coat hanger in hole (you can see where I used a cotter pin, as I could not find my real pin),,, get belt on, pull pin, and use allen wrench to snug pulley/belt so pointer is aligned with mark on bracket...
Whatever you do, DO NOT remove the bolt any more than enough to loosen it and get pin set in place, or you'll be mad trying to figure out their stupid idea (old style tension pulley was easy to use)

Hopefully somebody is up this early so I can move on with this project lol.....I have everthing off. The bottom cam or whatever you call it is lined up with the Timimg marks. The top on the other hand I noticed is almost opposite of the red timing mark, I assume the hole is suppose to line up to it. Why would this be like that to begin with? Nothing was moved while removing the belt. 2nd should I go ahead and turn the top sprocket to line up with the mark?
Thanks
