Boy and I were on road this morning, recycled 210lb of aluminum cans and 18lb of #1 copper for $146 cash.. now if fella call and come get the NIB Elantra trunk lid I have, all will be well today

I have everthing off. The bottom cam or whatever you call it (cog) is lined up with the Timimg marks. The top on the other hand I noticed is almost opposite of the red timing mark, I assume the hole is suppose to line up to it.

You need to rotate crank 1 more time around, currently you are on cylinder #4 TDC,,, rotate so hole in cam cog has res line seen through hole, that will pit you on #1 TDC...

Why would this be like that to begin with? Nothing was moved while removing the belt. 2nd should I go ahead and turn the top sprocket to line up with the mark?
If you have the belt off already,,,, then do not turn the cam gear... valves will hit the #1 & #4 pistons, as they is up top.... Take and turn the crank about 90* either direction to lower the pistons out of the way,,,,,,,, then you carefully rotate the cam to align hole with red line as seen in my pics above............ then slowly rotate crank back the same as you came from to re-align mark on cog to line on block (oil pump cover), then insatll belt.

Thanks
Start with belt on crank, then work around the idler (keeping belt tight), up over cam gear (still keeping belt tight), and finally flip belt around adjuster pulley (loose eide of belt)

Call me paranoid when it comes to cars, sorry for the 100 questions...

How often should the belt tensioner be replaced? Before I put it all together I started the car to make sure it wasnt going to blow up. It made a loud squelling sound, now the only belt on at this moment is the timing belt. Checking online it sounds like I had the belt to tight so I did ease up on the tensioner a bit (guess im afraid of thowing the belt). Hope I didnt back off to much. That fixed the squealing sound

When I had the bottom camshaft pully off I noticed a white mark on the gear I assume this is a timing mark as well? It was lined up with a mark behind the gear and the top cog hole was lined up with the red dot as well. After putting the pully back on I noticed the notch was no longer lined up with the TDC mark on the timing belt cover, it was atleast a inch to the right of it. Should this be a concern? Honesty I dont even know how anything can be out of whack when all your doing is replacing a belt and not moving any gears....

edit - When I had the tensioner off it seemed to spin ok and did not have any play but had a little bit of noise, guessing its the bearings moving.. This normal noise?

Well something is not right....It shifts at higher RPMs, alot louder and no highway power......I guess its a timing thing. When it cools off im going to reset both cogs to there marks.....ahh well lesson learned if this fixes it.

Everything is lined up with the timing marks, had some trouble with that tension pulley 2nd time around it kept wanting to move lose as you tighten it.

Took it down the road I guess its fine, I normally dont drive this car and all 4cly just sound loud to me I usually drive a 8cly. She doest know if it runs any different either lol. Problem is the check engine light is on now. I disconnected the battery cable for a min and it seem to clear the light until the car is shut off and restarted then it comes back on. Guess ill take to autozone real fast and see if there machine reads.

Any suggestions would be welcome.
