Default Newbie question

Hey guys

Just bought a 1999 Excel sprint twincam auto. The problem i am having is that when i start the car there is a squeeky noise from under the hood ... usually goes away after the engine has been running for 5-10mins.

Any idea what the hell is going on or a fix.

Oh i am a newbie just drive and no jack about cars

TIA

Default RE: Newbie question

First item to look at is the drive belt which drivesthe alternator. It could be loose or just wore out. Once a belt starts slipping, if left to do so for a while, it usually becomes glazed and that ruins your belt. Change it if there's any doubt. Oh, it probably stops squealing after a few minutes because the battery is now topped-up,because starting takes some charge down and loads the alternator.
