Oil Pump Pickup Tube Question

Oil Pump Pickup Tube Question
'97 Elantra
I am replacing the oil pan, and of course, the oil pump pickup tube is exposed. I am wondering if there is a flat gasket or an O-ring between the tube
assembly and the pump, and if it should be replaced while I have the oil pan off? I am not inclined to take it apart unless I know it should be replaced.
If so, do I need to get the gasket from the dealer or will any parts store have it? Otherwise, I'm ready to put everything back together tomorrow evening (5/5/08)
Thanks!

RE: Oil Pump Pickup Tube Question
Sorry I don't have the exact answer because I've not yet been into a Hyundai engine, but generally, if you have the pan off, you should always replace what's recommended on an oil pump. It is, of course, critical to the health of your power plant. I always rebuilt the oil pump when opening the bottom end of all the V8's I've worked on.

RE: Oil Pump Pickup Tube Question
Thanks, but I'm not rebuilding the oil pump. That is accessed from behind the crankshaft pulley, and thats a whole different job in itself. I only have the oil pan off. I was just wondering if the oil pump pickup tube gasket is something that should be replaced while the oil pan is off.

RE: Oil Pump Pickup Tube Question
I know you said you are still learning the Hyundai (so am I). I'd suggest going here and signing up for access (it's free): http://www.hmaservice.com/
It has all sorts of service info, diagrams, TSB's and other info about almost all US Hyundai vehicles.
