Default Sludge buildup - best method?

The previous owner of my 2002 hyundai coupe didnt change the oil for a good 10-12k, and so the car has developed a slight build up
of sludge/black tarnish when viewing inside the oil fill cap.
I ideally want to run Amsoil on this motor as i want the engine to last as long as possible, and should a long oil interval occur it can cope (I cant change the oil myself every 3k, dont have the space or tools) so its
a trip to the parents etc. and take me ages (im no mechanic)
So, whats the best approach? Run some flush for 30 miles, drain and fill with synthetic Amsoil (semi in there now).
Or do i get some flush, run some 'ok' oil for a bit (like Havoline semi - good additive pack) THEN run amsoil next time?

Thanks

Couple approaches,

1 - change with plain oil, add 1/2 to 3/4 qt of ATF in place of oil.

2 - change oil with Mobil-1, synthetic oil has habit of dissolving old oil remnents..

Just remember to change oil at regular intervals, and sludge should never ba a problem

I agree. Forget Amsoil and run Mobil1 to clean it. After it's been cleaned you could switch to a synthetic blend like Mobil Clean 5000 or Mobil Clean 7500.

I'm considering using the Amsoil in my 03 Sonata with the V6. It has 94K miles. Amsoil beats all the competition in all test and categories. I have only heard great things about the company and products.

I agree with NovaResource and sbr711 about using a full synthetic to clean the motor, except I'd buy the cheapest full synthetic on the shelf, Walmart SuperTech, Quaker State, Pennzoil Platinum, whatever is on sale. I'd start with a clean filter and keep an extra on hand. If you notice any fluctuation in oil pressure or pressure seems slow to build at startup, I'd swap out the filter and top off the engine with fresh oil. Once clean, do as you please. If interested, here is an example of a fellow that did exactly this with SuperTech synthetic that worked so well he has stuck with it for the long haul.

Rugby: Amsoil has a cleaner that you can run before you change oil.
Buy your Amsoil from a dealer who will sell to you at wholesale prices or become a preferred customer and buy it wholesale prices.

I've used Amsoil on all my Hyundai's and never had a problem. Also use there transmission fluid in both my Accent and Azera. No problems what so ever.

I use there best oil and change oil once a year. Accent filter once a year but on the Azera they don't make there best filter for it so I use a Purolater filter and change it out about every 7000 miles.

No problems, save money overall, and change oil once a year, so little hassle.
I use Amsoil in 5 cars and 1 motorcycle. Great stuff.

Thanks Jaybird511. I have a friend who is a preferred member. I planned on using the Amsoil flush as directed. I think it cost about the same as a cheap quart of synthetic. They do have the 25K filter for my Sonata which I will use. I dont plan on going the full 25K w/o a change, probably 17-20K. Also I was considering the tranny, too. But I need to find a place to do the full flush otherwise never capture all the fluid. Is there a flush for the tranny fluid?

BobN: Yes I looked it up and the flush so both for the oil or tranny fluid. Also I go only about 17 thousand a year in my Azera and the Accent used to get about 20000 and year but only about 5 thou, now. Hope it works as good for you as it does for me.

Jaybird511: Thanks again. I do about 25K/yr just for 5 day workweek so I'll be OK with 10W-30. In Mass this should keep me OK till Nov 1st. Should I change to 5W-30 or the 5W-20 for the winter ?
Also, I pulled timing belt cover last week, I found original Hyundai Kia
timing belt. The 2.7 has 95K on it now. The previous owner never changed it. I have to do it that also right away.
