Default stuck at home, tranny problems..please advise!

It all started last Sunday I was driving and I felt a thud..but my car continued to drive like usual.

I pulled into a store and parked, went in and came out....Reverse no longer worked when I went to pull out of the parking lot! I was able to get it pushed out of the parking spot so I drove around the lot to sort of see what else might happen.

Everything was okay. For a moment. Then I stopped and went through the gears to see what would happen.....a few clunking noises (scary) and I was on my way.

I was able to drive home safely.....going about 20mph, running about 4000 rpm.

Following are a few theories I have established:

-need new tranny (worst case scenario)
-possible cylinoid issue
-speed sensor maybe?
-transmission flush needed

What do you think????

automatic transmission? If so, could be a speed sensor.... were you in "limp home" mode (stuck in 3rd gear)? If not, maybe a solenoid or worse...

I do not know much about Hyundai transmissions but normally when you cannot get into the gears, they are gone. You could start with a flush (cheapest as far as I know), but that might lead to having your car stuck at the shop if the problem is bigger.

Good Luck

I just replaced the clutch on my 2005 elantra and now I cannot get into reverse. everything else works great.
Any advise? could it just be i need to adjust the shift cables or something?

Yes, if your reverse worked ok before you replaced the clutch, and now it won't make reverse, then assume there must be some sort of cable adjustment. I never tried to adjust them myself, but I would start by removing them from the top of the trans to see if they will adjust. Don't know if they need to be longer or shorter.

Are you sure you didn't get the cables switched around the wrong way?
