Default 03 Accent Front Brakes Question

I am the original owner of an 03 Accent. Currently have just under 95,000kms on it. My original set of breaks lasted 3 on the car. But it seems since then I've change the front brakes about every year. I average about 12,000 - 15,000 kms a year. Is this normal? I've been told its not possible to have to change them EVERY year. 9 months after my last front brake change(which always includes the rotors) I was told they were at 40%! Please help. Any knowledge would be appreciated!

It all depends on the quality of brake pads you are using, the quality of the mechanic performing the work and the type of driving you do. When I drove 95% city stop-and-go driving I went through pads every year. Now that I do about 50% highway, 50% city pads last 3 years or more.

another silly thing to consider - what kind of shape are the rotors in? may need to be machined, in which case they will shred the pads pretty quick.

One slight correction: Do not machine rotors. If they are warped or have grooves, REPLACE the rotors. Do not machine used ones. Rotors are cheap. Machining old ones just makes them thinner and more likely to warp.
