1996 Accent 1.5
I took my car in for a service at a local workshop. They phoned me a couple of days later and told me the ECU has blown while test driving the car. They said they will send it to someone they know that fixes ECUs. They contacted me then to tell me it was unrepairable. I took the car away from them and took the ECU (already disconnected by them) to a ECU repair facility. They told me the ECU was opened and a part was taken out and it was blown. According to them the ECU cannot burn out while driving, you have to cause a short or something to blow it up like that and that the part should not have been taken out. They suspect that it was swapped with another car's ECU. Can the ECU be traced through a bar code or other number to a specific car ? Is it possible to proof that these guys swopped it ? I can not afford to buy a new ECU for the car in South Africa, the price at Hyundai is more than the car's value. Any help will be appreciated.
