Default 2005 Accent fuel filter

Went to change the fuel filter on the Accent and found the access cover under the rear seat, removed the cover and it seems to be made backwards ?? the section that would give access to the filter is on the passenger side instead of the drivers side.

Factory service manual shows this as being correct. I am confused.

Looks like the fuel tank needs to be lowered to gain access to the filter.

The filter is INSIDE the tank connected to the fuel pump. You have to remove all the bolts on that plate at the top of the tank and remove the pump, pickup, fuel level sensor to access the filter.

I don't think your right. I guess the factory service manual is not right either. It clearly shows it just under the access cover in the square area but it is not.link to picture is below

To have to remove the complete pump assembly is just stupid to do a simple filter change.( I am not calling you ((Nova)) stupid )

Plus the new filter is painted black, wouldn't the gas eat the paint after a short time ??

the filter also has a ( i am guessing) a ground connection which also shows in the service manual.

I guess I will have to take a picture of this also and post.

anyone else have a Accent that they have replaced a filter on ??

Thanks

Your picture clearly states the fuel filter is submerged in gasoline with the fuel pump up the middle of the filter..

Earlier models had the filter external right there on top of the fuel tank.

Hyundai Accent Fuel Filter Replacement
Let's think about this. I said it's not an external filter and that it's inside the tank. You have physically removed the access panel and looked for yourself and you can't see any external filter. Yet you think I'm wrong?

Here's a good description of the procedure on an Elantra. It's not exactly the same for your Accent but it's close enough that you should be able to figure it out.

DIY Fuel Filter Replacement
Nova,

It looks like a local Advance auto parts store has the wrong information then, the filter ( Purolator part # F59030 ) I was given is of a external design,as per the factory shop manual, this is why I was doubting what you told me.
Girlfriend just called Hyundai, spoke to the parts guy (Oscar) he has a part number for both internal and external filters for cars starting in 1999.Oscar said the external filter is near the rear of the tank ?? then he said its under the rear seat.So much for help from the parts guy from Hyundai
And as far as the DIY link, there are people having issues because of incomplete information.

Does anyone have a part number from the dealer for a 2005 Accent, might this be the correct number 31112-25700

sbr711,

Your picture clearly states the fuel filter is submerged in gasoline with the fuel pump up the middle of the filter..
?? I don't think so,not having the fuel tank opened yet I don't really know what I have YET.

Earlier models had the filter external right there on top of the fuel tank.

Earlier ?? earlier then what ??

I can not believe how difficult it is to just get correct information on how to change out a simple maintenance item.

Thanks for the help guys

By "earlier" he means "older". So Accents older than yours had an external filter.

There has been some discussion here that some info in the shop manuals were incorrect and not updated when the design changed.

The picture (where ever it came from) depicts the in tank filter..

I looked at HYundai site with my dealer login, and it is all goofed up.. I tried to do "REPLACE" and "COMPONENT"... all I got DTC info, and the ETM would do no good either.

I "want" to say all the LC Accent is under the rear seat floor there after you lift the panel... here again,,,, IS THAT YOUR CAR in the pic you posted above ??

Trust me, you aren't the first (or the last) to be confused by that. I thought it was external too a few years back.
