Default 2005 fuel filter location

Looking for the fuel filter on a 2005 Hyundai Accent. I've looked under the back seat and there is not one there. I even pulled the fuel pump out of the tank thinking it might be with the fuel pump, but I don't see it. I've looked all up and down the underside of the car (where they normally are). I'm stumped. Do some of these cars not have a fuel filter?

Thanks!

Did your fuel pump look like one of these?

It's back in the car now, but I don't think it looked quite like that...although similar. Mine had a large fuel float attached to it & had a pre screen at the pick-up. It did have a similar plastic casing that you had to undo clips to get it apart. I don't remember seeing anything that looked like that fuel filter, but I'm not sure I would have guessed it was the filter. Autozone supplied me with a traditional looking in-line fuel filter.

I had a hard time finding my filter in my '99 Elantra. I finally found it under the brake booster bolted to the firewall, behind a plastic cover. I had to take out the stock intake junk to see it.

Thanks for the link! That looks more like the fuel pump housing that I have. If that is the fuel filter, how do I get a new one. All the local autoparts stores want to give me an in-line filter. Do I need to go to a steeler?

Try taking the schematic with you shopping. It may help a parts man to zero in on the correct part. Yes, you may end up at a dealership for the correct filter.

I was looking at the schematic again and noticed the Hyundai part number above it [Part Number: 31112-25700 (Filter-Fuel Injection Pump)]. To me this implies the filter and pump are one unit. The filter isn't available as a seperate item, it is part of the pump itself. I would ask the part manager at a dealership for confirmation.
