Default 2G (2004) Hyundai Accent GT transmission fluid change

Okay so before the flaming can begin, please just answer a few questions for me. I was performing a routine oil change on my girlfriends car, and I decided it'd be a great freakin idea to drain the transmission fluid. So after that mistake, I now have twice the oil, a new oil filter, and no transmission fluid. I have one bottle of castrol multi vehicle import A/T fluid. How many quarts does this car take? I believe I have about 3.5 quarts drained but I just want to make sure. The manual says 6.45...... And I'm going to drain all the oil out, and redo the oil change, but keep the filter. Thank you all for your help, I'm a mitsu guy myself and my oil pan is on the opposite side as hers, messed me up. She has a 2004 accent GT Auto. Thanks so much.

First, Hyundai automatic transmissions REQUIRE SP-III trans fluid ONLY. Do not use any other type of trans fluid. My suggestion, buy a few quarts from a Hyundai dealer. If you just drained the pan, it only takes about 3 quarts. The 6.45 in the manual is for the entire system. Removing the pan plug does not drain the fluid in the valve body, pump and torque converter.

we all contemplate it, but don't go down that tempting road of using the multi-vehicle fluid to get it going for now with the intention of changing it later. its not worth the risk of a blown/damaged transmission!

Thank you! I'm sure it couldn't be too much more than $10 a quart I'm assuming. Thanks for the info I will be returning the Castrol A/T fluid.. it does say SP-III compatible on it, but you guys know what you're talking about judging by your dedication to the Hyundai forum. Thanks again guys!

Why would you think it would cost $10 a quart? Just because it's from a dealership? I paid $5.75 a quart for Hyundai SP-III ATF. How much was that Castrol ATF?

I called them and they quoted about $7. From experience with dealership pricing on fluids I was guessing and wasn't too far off. Castrol was $4.25 a quart.
