Default Clutch pedal no pressure?

Hey guys,

I searched all over and I cant seem to find the answer. I have a 1996 Accent base model 2 door 5 speed. I was driving my car last night and everything was fine. Car sat overnight and this morning when I went to start it I noticed that there was no pressure in the Clutch pedal. I can push it down and it would pop back up (Very loose when you push it down). The car wont start or turn over. Got the wife to push the clutch and the master slave cylinder has very little movement. Does anyone know what this could be? The car should still start or should it not? I am thinking its the Master clutch slave cylinder or the clutch cylinder. If anyone experianced this problem or knows about it please let me know. Thanks in advance!!

You dont mention if you checked the clutch fluid level. It doesnt hold much fluid to begin with. There is a master cylinder, and a slave cylinder, not a master slave cylinder.

Check the fluid level, top up if required, and bleed. Have had to do it on my Honda and Accent.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I will check it in the morning and let you know about the fluid level. Do you know if this would be the reason why the car wont start? I was told that it should start whenI press the clutch pedal down becuase there is a switch in the pedal that enables the engine to start.

I would have to go and look at my Accent to see where the starter safety switch is. Most vehicles have it on the clutch pedal, but there are several that use a pressure switch on the master cylinder. No pressure, no switch operation.

Cheers

The switch appears to be a standard plunger-type safety switch mounted on the support bracket. I too first suspected either a slave or master cylinder seal failure, but now I am not sure. I'd stick my head up under the dash and inspect the pedal movement and switch action. Could be the support bracket has cracked or the bushings have gone out, reducing the mechanical advantage and the amount of travel on the master cylinder plunger. That would also account for the switch misalignment.
