Did I hurt my new manual accent?
I have a 2011 Hyundai Accent. Love it and I am breaking it in the way they say to. I have 400 miles on it. Yesterday in a parking lot while driving in first, I let my foot off the gas with the rpm's a little above 2000 so that I could coast to a stop. When I took my foot off the gas and it decellerated in 1st, I hear a light knock knock sound from the rear that seemed to coincide with the decelleration. I got worried something was wrong, so I went to a parking lot that was wide open and proceded to drive around in 1st gear to see if I could make it happen again to troubleshoot it. For about 3 minutes I drove in first gear and let the rpms go up between 2000 and just below 3000 rpms, and then I would take my foot off the gas and listen for the noise , but only heard it every once in a while. I was upset for myself afterword for being obsessed about finding the noise and now wonder if I caused the car any harm by driving for 3 minutes in first gear at 2000 rpms and taking my foot off ... I must have done it 11 times... Do you think I could have hurt any of the gears by doing this? I hope it caused no issues being still in the break in period. I am figureing it didnt because it still drives normal, and that kind of action would happen to anyone riding in first gear on highway in traffic. Could my test have caused any problems with the gears or tranny?

Oh , I meant I only drove it between 2000 and under 3000 rpms for 5 seconds at a time before taking my foot off to listen for the sound. I did not drive it for 3 minutes at that RPM's.....I meant 3 minutes worth of testing out the short 5 second tests..

Was the car bucking or something? No harm done with that, if you have the hatchback with a cargo cover, maybe the cargo cover was rattling? I also have the manual trans, but I usually take it out of gear, and coast to stops, that saves the clutch instead of downshifting to a stop, it also improves mpgs by long coasting to stops.

You may have to remove hatch inner cover to check your linkage for looseness.
