I have a 2002 accent that the driver side door handle broke. has anyone replaced this before, and is it a pain? should i just bring it to a shop? does anyone know of a place to get a picture of the inside of the door? i am just looking for some advice before i just start ripping it apart! thanks.

Default RE: door handle

Goto http://www.hmaservice.com/, register and login. Use Internet Explorer, the site gags with Firefox. Once you are in the site, click on "Shop" on the left hand side. At the next screen, there will be some option boxes on the upper left. Pick your model, year and engine. You can then start drilling down through the technical info for this car. Select "G 1.5 SOHC" > "Body (Interior and Exterior)" > "Exterior" > "Front Door". There's repair procedure that details dismantling of the door. There's also a schematic of the door components. At least this will give a clue if you want to tackle this yourself or take it to a body shop.

Good luck.

P.S. If you've never removed the interior trim from a door before, I suggest you go to a "U-Pick" salvage yard for two reasons. 1) You'll likely find the part you want for less money, 2) you can practice the door surgery on a spent carcass before you dive into your own. There are lots of plugs and plastic connectors that easily get broken if you try to force panels off without knowing what's underneath.
