Default P0717(related 734 & 733)

2009 Hyundai Accent (GLS ?) 4 door sedan 1.6L auto base model

Problem: 'Check Engine' light 'On'. Transmission shift problems.

Diagnostics: Code(s) read at local Autozone. Found p0717 (also related p0733 & p0734) 'Turbine-Input' shaft speed sensor A. Also called 'pulse generator A' sensor or VSS (?)

Fixed:Replaced VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor or Variable Shaft Speed sensor or even Pulse Generator A sensor ???)

Part: NAPA part # VSS 1022 $38.00 (note: long electrical wire and connection plug attached.

Location:Hood open, face car: driver-side; front/side (not on top ) of tranny, near tire well; under battery area.

Easy to replace but had to remove several items to get to sensor: air filter box, battery & tray, front driver-side tire, small plastic cover in tire well to access sensor on tranny.

Note: There are two other 'sensors' associated with this problem. An 'output' sensor B (?) and a 'speedometer' sensor.
The speedometer sensor (electrical connection and mechanical 'plug-in key' device) sends signal to dash gauge to indicate speed of vehicle...speedometer reading. Not sure what the code(s) are for these items....maybe p0722 for 'output B' sensor?

(If I can figure out how to, I will post some pics ??)

Hope this helps some of ya'll. Good luck!

Default Additional pics and info

All three sensors can be 'mislabeled' as VSS sensor. But best names should be: 1) 'Input' sensor (or pulse generator A)
2) 'Output' sensor (or pulse generator B)
3) 'Speedometer' sensor (or Vehicle Speed Sensor)

If you take the tire and plastic cover off, do you still need to remove the battery and tray? Where does the connector plug in?

Yes. You need to see and follow wire to the connection wire harness. Hard to access work area without removal of battery and tray.
(Sorry for delayed response.)
