Default Starter replacement

Hi

I have a 2002 hyundai accent 1.6 ltr. that needs the starter replaced, all the fuses are good, new battery, and the relay is good. My question is this a easy replacement after I remove the airbox and the starter connections-or is it a pain?- I have it located under the intake at the rear of the engine. My mechanical ability level is minimum to moderate if that helps-how hard is it?

In my opinion, it's not a hard job. It takes a bit of jiggling to get the old motor out and the new one in, but if you have a logical mind and can picture how things go together, you should be OK. Disconnect the battery before you start - this is a standard word of caution whenever doing anything with the electrical system (or welding) on a vehicle with control modules. Undo the wires on the motor first and mark them to show where they go (masking tape and marker works) - you could take some pictures but you're in pretty cramped quarters. Remove the bolts (they should be metric so you should make sure you have a set of metric sockets before starting the job) and you're ready to do the swap of old to new.

If you have a manual of some kind for your Accent, it should have some pictures which are generally helpful. If you don't have a manual, try doing an internet search - you should be able to find quite a few "how to" write ups and maybe even some videos to help.
