'00 Accent P1128
I have a 2000 Accent that is driving me crazy with code P1128.
Recent replacements:
1. O2 sensors
2. Flex exhaust pipes and gaskets. (flex part broke)
3. Plugs
4. Wires
5. MAF sensor
6. Just changed timing belt and all auxillary belts
7. PCV Valve
Car idles rough stopped at a light. I can feel the vibration in the seat. I have searched numerous times for a vacuum leak with no luck finding one.
Help...this code is driving me crazy.

I'M HAVING EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM! 90k TIMING BELT CHANGED AT 65k NEW FLEX NEW CAT NEW O2 SENSORS.GOT 66 MILES AND CHECK ENGINE ON AGAIN.HAD LOST 10 MPG WHEN FIRST LIGHT CAME ON.dDIDN'T GO FAR ENOUGH TO CHECK MPG (66MILES) BEFORE SECOND LIGHT.

A quick check on the net indicates MAF sensor or intake leak:


P1128 - Long Term Fuel Trim Multiplicative System Too Lean.
The ECM will set a code and the MIL will turn on if the long-term fuel trim value goes from 10% to 15% lean for 30 seconds during two driving cycles when the following conditions are met:
1.- Engine loads exceeds 1.8 milliseconds.
2.- Engine coolant temp. is above 158F (70C).
3.- Canister purge system is not operating.
4.- Mass air flow is less than or equal to 5.5grams per second.
5.- Engine speed is below 1000RPM.


Did you erase the codes?

Did you put in a new MAF sensor or a junkyard sensor?

Check the intakes for cracks or holes?

 

I haven't replaced the MAF (hoping not to at the price new) the other fellow did with the same problem.Could overfilling the gas tank flood the canister causing the problem

 

I suppose it is possible that the charcoal from the canister has lodged into the purge valve, creating a vacumm leak. Maybe it's a specific problem to Accents. The test there is to remove the purge valve or plug it up somehow.

 

as far as codes erased the mechanic urned it off the irst time if that is erasing it.it was off for 44 miles the first time after new cat flex and 1 o2 sensor.then 2d o2 sensor and 66 miles.its at the garage now.

 

He sounds like a "parts changer". If this is the same code he's be getting all along, then he doesn't sound too good. This code means INTAKE LEAK, not exhaust leak or O2 sensor problem.

 

From reading all I can abut this code and what Autozone printed out he has replaced what is in the code repair.One ting I think is funny is the car runs fine except MPG droped 25% as soon as the light came on and just before that dropped 20%. Starts idles and runs like it always did.

 

This could be a leaking intake gasket.
