Default 2007 Azera - sudden downshifting

Hi All,

I am a new 2007 Azera owner and new to the forum. So far, I love the car. However, since I am new to Hyundai, I wanted to run something past everyone to see if this is normal behavior, or if this is a problem...

In all the cars I've driven, typically, when you take your foot off the gas and coast to a stop, it will do so at a CONSTANT decreasing speed.

With my Azera, this is what happens;

At 40 mph, I take my foot off the gas and let it coast. Around both, 33 mph and 25 mph, it literally feels like someone momentarily steps on the brakes.

My question is; is this normal Hyundai transmission behavior during down shifting? Or, do I need to get my Transmission checked out. Does anyone have the same braking sensation?

Thanks All!

I would take it to the dealer and see what they said. There is a technical service bullitin #07-40-010. They have to test it with a scanner and run a dynamo test.

I agree, that doesn't sound normal. Usually, Hyundai automatics are known for not down shifting soon enough when coasting to a stop.

I've had this problem too. From what i have personally experienced, this is normal behavior in Hyundai trannys.

Get on an uphill freeway onramp and give it about half throttle. It will stay in 2nd FOREVER before it goes in 3rd. Ive learned just to shift it myself.

Usually when i'm slowing down it jumps into 3rd around 40 mph.

I've had the same thing happen to me in a 09 Sonata and an 08 Santa Fe.

I've come to the conclusion that Hyundai transmissions have no clue what gear they wanna be in. After my friend drove my car he said the same thing. Its like the tranny gets confused.

And the dealership will tell you the same thing.
