08 Elantra Stalling Problems
Just bought an Elantra 2008 three weeks ago. This past week it started having trouble accelerating and now just plain running.
It's almost as if it is not getting enough fuel. Last week the check engine light came on and took it to the dealership, replaced an O2 sensor. Worked ok for about a day, then it just started sputtering, I thought it was running out of gas, b/c it was low (but not completely on the E) So I filled up. Ran fine again, until the next afternoon. Sputtering again, slowing creeping to a halt. When started up, it would sputter and idle erratically, and then eventually die. Then finally it just wouldn't start at all. Had it towed, sat overnite at dealership, they went out and started it. Ran fine--like nothing was wrong. No codes or anything to help determine what could be the problem. Dealership had to call into Hyundai tech help, they say to replace fuel pump. I just wonder if anyone else has had similar problems with the newer models of the Elantra or if i'm special! [:@]
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks! Lisa

RE: 08 Elantra Stalling Problems
Just keep taking it back to the dealer. I would suggest in light of your repeat problem that you do a test drive with the service writer before you take the car home, in case it recurs right away. I'm totally happy with my 05 Elantra now, but in the first 8 or 9 months I had to take it in several times for Check Engine Lights. It never stalled on me, but it took a few visits before they got the right component replaced. Be persistent. Also, you should know that you don't have to take the car back to the dealer where you bought it for warranty work. Some dealers don't mind warranty work; others hate it. So if your dealer gives you a hard time, and there are other dealers within driving distance, take it somewhere else.
Also, if you just keep having the same problem and they can't fix it, look into lemon laws in your state; I think that if you have to take a car back for a problem that renders it undriveable 3 times in the first 6 months (or somethng like that), you can make them buy the car back from you and get a different car (either another Hyundai, or go somewhere else if you're totally turned off). I've never had to do this, so you'll probably have to do something like Google "lemon law [your state]"

RE: 08 Elantra Stalling Problems
Purchased a new 2008 Elantra two weeks ago. Left the dealer with my new car and when I reached about 40mph I noticed the car hesitating; almost a struggle to get up to speed. I slowed down to about 35mph and it seemed just fine. However, when I got on the highway and tried to accelerate to 55mph, it kept hesitating. I finally lost power to the engine about 20 miles from the dealer and had to call them to have the car towed. I told them it was a faulty fuel pump - the dealer sent a tow truck and the saleman and a co-worker came in two separate cars to pick me up. One of the cars was given to me as a loaner until the problem was fixed.
When I called the dealer a few days later, they told me that the fuel pump would not arrive from the distributor until August 1st, since the 2008 Elantra was experiencing a severe Quality Control (QC) problem with their fuel pumps. There was a backlog orderof 400 pumps on the East Coast. Fortumately, the manager of the dealershipwas ableto classify thecar as a "disabled vehicle" and the pump arrived on 3 July. Seems the Hyundai engineers/technicians are now bench testing all fuel pumpsbefore shipment due to this problem. Picked up the car Friday and all is well.
Hope this helps!

Elantra stalling problem
My 2008 Elantra was also having a stalling problem. I took it to the dealer and he found nothing wrong. Fortunately, I found this website that says that the fuel pump is problematic with this car. So, I am talking to him about getting a new fuel pump.
Looks like the fuel pump problem is a prevalent problem with this car.
