Hyundai Elantra While not much larger than the accent, the Elantra offers similar room, but a sportier look and feel, as well as more power.

Default '09 Elantra w/ radio delete

I have an '09 elantra that didn't come with a radio. I thought I could buy a factory unit and it would plug right into my harness. No luck, the vehicle wire harness and the radio plug do not match up, any ideas?

The SA710 is the simplest of the factory head units offered by Hyundai for the 2009 Elantra. All factory units use the same 3 connectors.

Did the radio come with a short pigtail that does plug into the back of the radio? I'm guessing you have an aftermarket unit that is not specific to the Elantra.

Default Thanks Ken

The head unit I have is a factory unit, it just appears that it is from an '08. So, i guess they were correct in telling me it would fit '07-'10 because it does fit correctly in the dash, just has different hook ups. It is the same unit as pictured here

I guess my options are to find two wiring harnesses or to try and find an '09 radio. thanks for your help

This looks like the schematic to unit on Ebay. Note location of "XM" button on face plate.

If you can live without XM radio, it looks like you will need to map from the "A" and "B" connectors on the harness to the 24-pin socket on the 2008 unit. The are companies that make adapter pigtails for this purpose (e.g. Scosche). Looks like this pigtail (http://www.scosche.com/products/productID/1842) will connector to the A/B connectors on the 2009 harness. You might have to find a 2007 or 2008 donor car in a salvage yard to cut out the pigtail that will fit into the radio, or you might find one on the internet. Very doable project.

Thanks for all the info Ken, the schematics are great! Also thanks for doing the leg work of finding the correct pigtail. Would i need to do anything with the 8 pin outlet?

I don't think so unless you have also purchase the matching set top box receiver for XM.
