Hyundai Elantra While not much larger than the accent, the Elantra offers similar room, but a sportier look and feel, as well as more power.

Default 2001 elantra will not start

My 2001 Hyundai Elantra does not start. The engine stopped while driving at about 7 mph and it does not restart. The battery is fully charged and working well. Lights come on and the engine turns. The timing belt is good and tight, and moves when the starter is engaged. The oil is good. There is no fuel pump actuation, no spark, no radio, and no check engine light (CEL). The fuses all look good, but I cannot tell about the relays. Other threads indicate a crank position sensor is the problem. As with those threads, I have no spark or fuel. However, I cannot figure why the radio and CEL also do not work. Because the CEL does not work, I have been told that I cannot use a code checker. Is there a way to check the sensor with a voltage meter, or some other way? Also, a clunk sound was heard, and a bump was felt, when the car initially stopped running. Could this have been a crank shaft? My thought is that the clunk and bump was only the effects from the engine turning off with the car rolling. However, while I wait for a reply, I will try to turn the crank by hand.

Default Multitester finding

I hooked up an analog multitester. At RX10 the tester reads 28 (280 ohms). The specs are supposed to be 486-594 ohms at 68 degrees F. Unless I'm overlooking something, the sensor tests bad. However, what if anything does a bad crank sensor have to do with no check engine light (or other dash warning lights)?

Default And the answer is...

The electrical harness plug that goes to the ignition switch had become loose, and so was not completely plugged in.
