Hyundai Elantra While not much larger than the accent, the Elantra offers similar room, but a sportier look and feel, as well as more power.

Default 2003 Elantra cuts off while running....sometimes?

I have an 2003 Elantra with about 40K miles. After a two hour drive back in November I parked my car for about 4 minutes then started it up. I put the car in reverse and started backing up when it cut off. It started right up again but I was surprised....since then it has happened 4 more times. I thought it had something to do with the transmission, so I had a transmission flush done which the dealer mechanic had recommened, but it is still happeneing. Today, it cut off while the car was in drive. Needless to say I am getting concerned because of the ferquency of the problem and the fact that it is escalating.

I am afraid the problem will be extensive and expensive which, let's be honest with the economy I really can't afford right now.

Any advice? Good or bad I want to hear it

Take it to Autozone for a free trouble codes scan, then tell him you think the alternator is going bad, please test the charging system. It's all free.

I didn't even get a chance to do that once I saw yoru reply before the "check engine light" came on. I am going to take it to auto zone tonight, although i don't have a day off for the next 5 days. This sucks!
