Hi- I am having problems with the shift lever on my 2003 Hyundai Elantra and now the car won't start. The problem came on all of a sudden...one day the shift lever was working smoothly and the next day it was very difficult to shift from Park to Drive or any other gear. For the first day after discovering the problem the car started and drove just fine but the next day the car would not start. It doesn't turn over or even seem like it is trying to start. Does anyone have any advice as to what might be going on? Thanks.

 

The shift cable may be damaged and causing the shifter to bind. It's probably not starting because the shifter isn't all the way into park because of the binding cable. I'd take a look at the shifter and cable.

My 2003 is doing the same thing. I disconnected the shift linkage from the tranny; it works fine. The tranny itself won't go back into park. Any ideas?
