Default Car doesn't beep when locking with remote key

Hi,

This is a used car (Elantra 2002).

1. When I lock the car (by using the remote key), I don't hear any beep from the car when lock button is pressed twice (Most other cars do). Car never beeped since I purchased the car. Don't know if it was the same with the previous owner.

2. When I lock the car using the remote key, the front two indicators are supposed to flash once. Until recently it used to do that. But now this doesn't happen (They blink only when I unlock using the remote key, but not when locking).

With both the above issues, I have to physically check if the doors are locked.

I am guessing that this behavior has to do something with the fuse. But it is just a guess.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

If the lights only flash on unlock and not on lock then one of the sensors on the doors, hood and truck lid is not working correctly. The system thinks a door or the hood or trunk is open. Check all the switches first.

Look for missing hood bumper, 2002... been wrecked and hood replaced ??? Not uncommon for body shop to toss old hold and install new hodd without trivial decorations...

Thanks a lot. This worked.

The hood wasn't touching the sensor (left hand side, under the hood) and I just put a piece of rubber to enable the hood to touch it. It works.

However, I don't hear the been when the car is locked (pressing twice) using the remote key. How do I fix this?

Thanks.

How quickly are you double pressing? Doing it too quickly won't work. You have to wait about a second but not longer than about 5 seconds between presses.

Also, I'm not sure if that was an available feature in 2002. It's mentioned in the 2005-up Elantra owners manuals but not in the 2002 model.

I think I have tried different timings to test it, and it doesn't work.

Can someone confirm if 2002 Elantra beeps when locked twice using a remote key?

Thanks.

I did some checking and what I found said this was not a feature in the 2002 Elantra. Only 2004+ Elantras.
