How Often to Flush Fluids? Also Brake Pads?

Again, not true. Unless the rotors get warped, have grooves cut in them or are machined every time you change pads that will last much more than 50k miles. There's no reason why properly maintained brakes will allow the rotors to go over 100k miles.

I think we are in basic agreement overall but, how do you ‘properly maintain’ front brakes other than changing the pads before they grind?
My experience on these cars (99&04 Elantra) is after two sets of pads (90K+ miles) the rotors look pretty tired. For only $30 each, I’m going to change them. And if the pistons in the calipers look iffy, I’m going to change them too.

Look tired? You can tell rotors are "tired" by looking at them? You're a better mechanic than I am. I have to measure the runout and the thickness. If they are within spec, they don't need to be replaced.

40K miles for the front pads is about the right time if you want to be safe. $10 at your auto store for a new set. It’s the first real repair I have taught each of my kids.
Once you have the front tire off you are half way done with the job. The pros can do the entire job in 15 minutes from start to finish. It’s a huge money maker for them.

10 to 15 dollars sounds right in SA Rand terms. sbr711, do you not want to spend a holiday here in sunny South Africa ? I have a spare room or 2 at home and a garage full of tools you can play with on my new 2005 Tucson! : )
How do you test for water in brake fluid?
I hear flushing motors is bad as it loosens bits of metal that are stuck out of harms way ?
Regards,
Duncan
