Default Interference or non interference Elantra 2005 1.6 DOHC 16 v engine

Could anyone say with certainty if the 2005 Elantra 1.6 DOHC, EFI , 16 Valve engine is a non interference or a interference engine.

2005 Elantra around here has the 2.0 engine...

Accent has the 1.6

Both will crash valves to piston if belt breaks.

While that is true for North America, the world is bigger than just the USA. Hyundai sells cars all over the world and the Elantra was available with the 1.6 Alpha, 1.8 Alpha and even a 2.0L turbo diesel in other countries.

Please remember this forum is a place for people from all over the world to get info.

And yes, the 1.6L Alpha is an interference engine.
