Looking for a used elantra, but I have questions....
Ok, I'm looking at buying a used hyundai elantra. I havent set my eyse on a particular car yet. I just wanted to come in here and get the good, the bad and the ugly from the experts in here.
Any particular years have known serious problems?
How many miles will these cars typically go for before they start having serious engine problems(150k, 200k)?
Were there any changes year to year that made a particular year better than the others?
I have it set in my mind that these cars run well for around 100k miles then they start becoming a maintenance nightmare.... Am I wronge?
I'm drawn to these cars because of the cheap price and great gas mileage, anything you can offer would be helpful, anything I should keep an eye out for, etc.
Thanks,
Eric

I know the 04 and 05 did the best on Consumer Reports, as far as reliability goes....however I just got an 04 and now its getting a new motor, good thing they have a good warranty. I'd try to get a newer one with low miles, you will have a 5 year 60K bumper to bumper warranty.

I have a 2001 GT with 106k miles. Other than break wear and replacing the clutch at 92k miles, I have had no other major repair done. My differential did start leaking oil last year at 95k miles but got that fixed and covered under the 100k powertrain warranty. Gotta love that 100k powertrain warranty!

maintenance nightmare?
Na it just that human nature does not lend it self to preventive maintenance. If it is not blowing steam and stopped on the road keep driving it is the thought of most.
Too bad because most cars can now be driven a lot more miles then in days gone by. Too bad we just keep driving more miles per year.
So I say find someone who makes a good buck and has put some of it in there car.
Also has paperwork to prove it.
Good luck.
