Default Maintenance Agreement - JM&A

Purchased a new 2008 Elantra SE yesterday. They were offering me a extended warranty bumper to bumper 10yr/100,000 mi for $1250 and a maintenance agreement 3yrs or 37500 for $664 through JM&A. Do you know if either of these are worth it?

Simply read the fine print and decide for yourself. Most of these have such high deductables or co-payments and a list of excluded repairs that render them not worth the paper they are printed on. Also, read the details of the warranties available to you for a new car purchase from Hyundai (http://www.hyundaiusa.com/global/warranty/warranty.aspx). Dealerships push the extended warranties because they are nearly 100 percent profit.

Yeah I had already pretty much decided against the extended warranty.

I was however perhaps interested in the maintenance. I do not however have a copy of whats included. Does anyone have any experience with this maintenance contract. All I really know is it covers oil changes and tire rotations and an air filter change at 30K. Does anyone have this maintenance agreement and if so what does it include and do you feel it is worth it?

If you change your oil at the dealership ever 3,750 miles as prescribed by the service schedule at $40 (which is high) per change, it will cost you $400 for the 37,500 miles of the maintenance contract. Air filter? Another $20. That leaves $244 to cover tire rotations. Most new car tires are rags. You'll be lucky to get 30,000 miles off the ones that came with the car. Rotating these might give you an extra 1,000 miles on the tires, but that service isn't worth $244. Most tire dealers usually offer free rotation for the life of the tires when a set of 4 are purchased. I would pass on the maintenance contract.

Yeah I had a similar calculation. That is why I wasn't sure I may be missing something. I was hoping someone who purchased this agreement could tell me what else maybe included.
