Hyundai Elantra While not much larger than the accent, the Elantra offers similar room, but a sportier look and feel, as well as more power.

Default P0722 Tranny speed sensor dead but shifting normally

One error code, P0722, tranny speed sensor is dead or rather, no output. Shop manual says could be dead sensor or bad ground. Manual also says should stay in 3rd gear and not make it to 4th.

As far as I can tell, the car shifts into 4th around 50 mph as it usually does. 1999 Elantra, 130,000 miles, 2.0 liter engine, 4-speed overdrive transmission.

I found the sensor for $50. Actually this one sensor replaces both the input and the output speed sensors unlike later models which had separate sensors to buy.

My question. Is it the speed sensor? How difficult is it to get to this speed sensor? The shop manual, well, I cannot find the specifics in replacing it in the factory shop manual.

I asked one chain to do it and they refused so either they are not too helpful or it's really difficult, like buried under the console and need to drop the tranny. But I doubt that.

Anyone have some clues for me? Thanks.
