Hyundai Elantra While not much larger than the accent, the Elantra offers similar room, but a sportier look and feel, as well as more power.

Default Please Help !!!!

I have a 99 hyundai Elantra with the 16v 2.0l ,w/ automatic tranny..
My problem is that the car will go into drive but has problems up shifting and reverse does does not even work... I have taken the pan down and put new fuild in it and a new filter but with no help... I took the pan down again and had my dad go through the gears and one of the solenoids is chattering ,it just makes this tapping sound as it goes through each gear ,, I think its the reverse solenoid because it faces the front of the trans away from the rest of the 3 solenoids.. I can't figure out whats wrong and why the tranny only works in every gear except reverse??? Please help me out !!!!!!

Thanks ahead of time
Jay

Hi-Scan or GDS for DTC,,,,, Actuation test of solenoids will duty cycle them so you can audibly verify they work. Look for ground issue, solenoid issue, wiring, TCMm cooked transmission

Ground is good but the solenoid is not sealing or there is a pulse going to it to have not open or close.. The solenoid is pulsating like its not open or closing fully..

The solenoid will cycle if power is duty cycled to it from the TCM.. that is how we acheive smooth shift feel... it it was simple ON-OFF, it will have 100% pressure apply and slam into gear... people hate transmission that shift firmly.. but race car fellas like it, no lost time during slipping shift to increase their ET at the strip..

We use a Trans tester to verify each gear in auto trans, funny to see an ACCENT chirp the tires when I turn the selector from 1 to 2, the rest of the shifts is just plain hard... DO NOT try and down shift with the box,,, bad JUJU if you not know what going on..

oh okay .. i don't have a tranny scanner and the internals are clean but it does not shift right like it does not have full pressure and there is no reverse and it doesn't even try to go into that gear.. The last tranny did the same thing but when i changed the tranny i did the same thing as far moving the shifter through the gears and the solenoid did not chatter or pulsate..
