Post your Elantra fuel economy
#21
I have about 400 miles on my car now. My fuel efficiency is 37.2 mpg (80% highway and 20% city/traffic driving). It seems like I get more fuel efficiency at 60mph than what I am used to driving at, which is 80+ (60 is a little slow since the limit is 65mph). I have a PZEV model though (lose 3 horsepower?). Generally I am able to get the stated ratings on a car or squeeze out a little more than the ratings. My 2003 BMW has a rating of 25 highway but I get 26.5 mpg from her. I'm not expecting to see the mpg get better on the Elantra until after 7k more miles perhaps? I go no more than 55 on an incline but I go maybe 70+ mph on a downhill to help make up the time difference (and 60 mph on general flat road). I've got lots of hills and going up the hills seem to really suck up the gas). I commute 65 miles one way to work or 130 round trip. Also, I think weight counts. I try not to carry too many things in my car, especially unnecessary items. Every pound counts (that's why the husband's Porsche is pretty bare inside). I weigh 125.

I have a 2010 Elantra Blue with manual trans. On the road at 70mph with AC on I have gotten as high as 38 with the wind behind me and as low as 33 with a strong headwind. My average is 35/36 on the highway. It does go down a few mpg's as the temperatures drop.

I got 40.2 mpg average (computer calculated though) today at 619 miles on the odometer going 55-60mph most times. (Note: gassed up at Shell with signs that say "Nitrogen Enhanced for optimal engine performance". Not sure if it matters much. I only gas up at a Shell or Exxon unless I am desperate for gas.)

I am at about 2000 miles on my '11 Limited (it's at the body shop right now, but I'll post more about that on another thread.)
My commute is not the best on fuel. Currently, I spend about 15 minutes or more driving through nothing but traffic lights, then about 10 minutes on freeway, then another 5-10 minutes getting to the edge of downtown Portland. That is during non-rush-hour times. Rush hour can elongate this commute, of course. Overall, the amount of stop and go gets me an average of around 25.
That said, there have been moments where I've gotten much better than that, under specific conditions. For example, I was on my return commute during less heavy traffic conditions, and it happened that all the lights were turning green at the right time - a miracle! The speed limit ranged from 35 to 40. I was suddenly getting over 30 MPG, even 35 at one point.
I will post again as my car continues to break in. People are wary about the "break in" rule, but my coworker's '11 Sonata, with about 5k, is now getting up to 40 MPGs on long freeway trips, so I am hoping for that sort of result from the Elantra.

Got stuck in traffic all week. Down to 36.3 mpg. Btw, don't rely on the computer's avg mpg. I did my own calc using gallons put in and miles on trip meter and it was 36.3 while the car's computer calculated 35.4.

I have less than 500 miles on my Limited and I am averaging 33-35 mpg with 75% highway at 65-75mph.

I have been getting on avg 29 mpg combined..of course i drive more street than I do freeway. I took my 2011 elantra up to six flags magic mountain which is 150 miles from San Diego and I was getting 38mpg with the AC on. If i had the AC off I probably could have gotten 40-42mpg. This CAR IS AMAZING!! I have the limited edition and do not regret it. This car has it all for a cheap price compared to a luxury car for half the price.

I own a 2010 Elantra and its fuel economy is pretty good, its about 20.5 mpg in the city streets and 31 mpg on the highway.

MPG 2011 Elantra
Big disappointment, about 3000 miles on my '11 Elantra, getting about 27mpg city and 36mpg hwy. No where near 40/33. I drive conservatively and was getting much better mpg on my 03 Camry which was rated 33/22. I was getting 35/25 on that vehicle with the same driving habits. I think Hyundai overstated the EPA MPG on this vehicle.

Really? So 35/25 on the Camry is "much better mpg" than the 36/27 on the Elantra? I don't know what kind of math you learned but last time I checked, 36/27-mpg is better than 35/25-mpg.
