Default problem with 2011 elantra tires in snow

Hi
We just purchased a 2011 Elantra and the car vibrates very badly after a driving in very small amounts of snow. Apparently the snow gets in the wheel wells . Is anyone else having the same issue? Also mileage is still not even close to estimated mpg

Snow in the wheel wells won't cause a vibration. The tire would just rub it away before it could build up (unless it's frozen solid). Maybe some snow or ice got on the inside of the wheel causing an imbalance that is creating the vibration.

About the fuel economy, how old is the car?
How many miles?
What type of driving (city/highway)? Granny or spirited?
What mileage are you getting?
How are you calculating it?

If the car is new and you are driving in snow, the mileage is not going to be close to advertised. It take a couple thousand miles for the engine to loosen up; and driving in snow on winter gas will lower fuel economy.

I haven't driven in snow in mine yet, but will keep you posted if I do. Portland doesn't usually get a great deal of snow, just lots of warnings and freak-outs.

Default Snow in wheels, poor mileage

I have had the same problem every snow storm this year. The snow builds p on the inside of the rims (both front and rear) and throws them out of balance, causing a vibration. I now have a flat stick and a flathead screwdriver that I carry in the car to scrape the snow and ice from the wheels. It's a pain, but it's not unique to this car.

I too am getting terrible mileage - 19-21 city, and best I can do is 31.5 on the highway. Had it 3 months, and there are 2500 miles on it. I've taken it to the dealer, which (surprise, surprise!) they say there's nothing wrong with it. I've tried 4 different stations' gas, and it makes no difference. I have complained to Hyundai USA as well, and soon thereafter, quite coincidentally I got a call from a company wanting me to elaborate on my mileage concerns. To "compensate" me for my time and conducting the survey they are going to send me a $20 gas card - how ironic, huh?

In my opinion, I think Hyundai knows they have a problem on their hands - they have overstated the mileage, and people (like me) purchased the car with fuel economy being the most important reason. This is my first Hyundai, and it will be my last if things don't get better. I'm getting Honda v-6 economy out of my tiny econobox 4 cylinder. I'm pissed. I do a lot of online reading, and I can't find one reliable instance where anyone is getting the claimed 40 MPG. With the new post-2007 mileage guidelines you would think we could at least match the EPA numbers, if not exceed them.

I just got mine last night, so I can't comment on those problems. However, being in the auto business, I can say that gas mileage always goes down in winter and up when the weather gets warmer. The hotter the air going in, the better off you are. I think that there was a class action suit a few years ago that claimed Hyndai was overstating their MPG ratings. They offered gift cards as a settlement.

Default Gas mileage not even close

We have 5000 miles on 2011 and has had first oil change. We drove from NY to Fl. last week gas mileage averaged 28 mpg. I think Hyundai has really over inflated the mileage or something is radically wrong with this car.. Ford escape we traded in got the same with a 6 cyl.
Has anyone out there got the estimated 40 mpg?

Well when your going 80mph your never going to get good gas mileage. I went to LA from San Diego, Six Flags to be exact. It is 150 miles away. Round trip I got 38mpg and I was going 70. If i was going 65 I probably would have got the average of 40mpg. Right now on normal trips to work which are 18 miles one way and about 6 of those miles are on the streets, I am getting a combined 28mpg.

I have 2010 Elentra and i haven't driven in the snow till now so, i have not faced that problem. My car is giving 20.5 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway which is quite good one.
