speedomitor ramges while driving steady
Hey folks I have 2002 elantra while driving say on the highway the speedometer drops to zero and back sometimes stays there for a little while and comes back. Sometimes it just bounces around and settles back down to the speed you think you are going. Any ideas???

Mine, too
I have been told there is an input sensor, an output sensor, and MAYBE a VSS. Looking at autoparts.com, I see something different - a wiring harness for passenger-side and a wiring harness for driver side. Each is about $165.
So... What do I buy:
input sensor?
output sensor?
VSS?
Wiring harness for ____ side?
Thanks!

Most vehicles now adays have whats called an electronic speedo sensor. Basicaly what it does is clock the revolutions on a special rail that has magnets on it. Each time it passes it sends a signal and the pcm decodes it to figure out what speed the vehicle is going. The PCM then sends the information to the dash speedo. 2001-2002 Hyundai Elantra Speed Sensor - Auto 7 560-0019 - At Transmission
There is a link to one for sale from apwarehouse. The best thing to try first, however, is locating the sensor. I've never messed with these and don't have my manual with me. However if I remember correctly it is located on top of the transmission towards the fire wall. Check the cables and apply a cleaner to the plug to clean it. Next apply di-electric grease to the seal of the plug. Drive it and see what happens. After that it can be an issue such as a bad ground wire or possibly the sensor is on its way out. I hope this helps you and can solve the issue.
As I said I believe this is where it is at but as soon as I get access to my manual I will post here to let you know for sure.
