tell me if im getting ripped off
im buying a car in NJ, a 2004 hyundai elantra GT and i think im getting ripped off in the contract.. here is the contract ( pay attention to the numbers )
car sales price: $9500
Delivery and handeling: $180 < i have no idea what that is.
Tax: $646.14
filing: $0
LIC. Plates: $100
3 year warrenty unlimited miles $1089 < undecided as hyundai's standerd warrenty should be good enough.
total purchase price $11515
Deposit: $200
used car allowance $0
held by
equity $0
cash on delvery 11315.14
the thing that bothers me most about this contract is the tax that seems to be a number that came out of thin air, i know that tax in NJ is 6% sales tax, the tax that is on the contract is based on an uneven ending number such as $9513.67 0r $9569.41 etc. but the car sale price says 9500 so that tax should end in a zero such as 640 or 660 etc. it just doesnt add up. am i right? and another thing is the delivery and handeling fee which seems to suggest that i am paying overhead that the dealer had to deal with for this car, cause i am not getting this car delivered to me or detailed, i must be getting ripped off...

RE: tell me if im getting ripped off
jcrew3002,
When I traded in my truck for the Accent GT last September, the salesman was rattling off numbers left & right. I got mine at Lester Glenn in Toms River. Before I drove it home, I got pre-approved from my credit union. Shorter term, lower interest rate, & lower monthly payments. Also never be afraid to ask them to bring everything down for ya. Ask for a copy of the contract and take it to another financial institute. They'll take anything as far as $$ is involved. I never ever use the dealers financing. Got better things to do with my money.
Hope this helps,
Brant

i work at burns hyundai in marlton nj. 856 983 3700 john pacheco. call me and wlka me through it and i will let you know if they are up to anything. if so maybe i can earn your bsiness the honest way. btw. hyundai warrenty is non transferrable except the 5 year 60k bumper to bumper becomes the basic warrenty. at burns hyundai we certify the car and give you our own 10 year 100k mile warrenty. also pay 100$ if you refer a friend and they make a deal.

btw your tax should be 570.00 if the selling price is 9500.00. check if there is a window etching on the car and if so what does the reg cost for that because that is a taxable fee. also optional if you do not want it. the deliver fee i have never heard of before. also tags of 100 doesnt make sense. here are some break downs on dmv fees. 4.50 to transfer. 20 title no lein 40 for a title with a lein. 3 for temp tag in nj 5 for an out of state temp tag. also a charge of 10 for a trade in state and 20 for a trade out of state. add each on up for which applies and u get the amount. also for new tags it is same titling fees temp tag fee and trade but the actual reg fee is different as follows. cars current model year or less one 56 anything older 43.50
