06 Elantra GLS 5dr - Hard shifting 2nd-3rd, NOT speed sensors?!
Beginning a week or two ago, my 06 Elantra GLS 5dr 2.0l (125k) began hard shifting or slipping between 2nd and 3rd gears. Looking up TSB and many forums points toward common error in speed sensors as possible cause.
Took it to Hyundai dealer shop who test drove and concluded it wasn't sensors; likely just clogged oil, and recommended transmission fluid change; which I did at normal shop for far cheaper. Didn't help. Now Hyundai says it likely just needs new trans. They have NOT actually run GDS diagnostic to test trans or sensors; this is just their Tech's diagnosis. But everything I am reading up on points toward speed sensors or solenoid; not transmission failure.
Problem seems worse when car is warmed up; but only slightly. Problem very manageable if I am aware of shifting point ~20-25mph and let off gas. It shifts, and then I can accelerate normally in 3rd.
Advice: Should I take back to dealership and have them run diagnostic for $80 (they are only place with this GDS system apparently); or do I just pay another shop to swap out the speed sensors and hope that fixes it before replacing transmission? Or is there a 3rd option I should attempt? Would trans-oil additive be of any possible use here?
Thanks ahead of time all!

Thanks, I had read through your post. This does not seem to be same issue. I do not have surging RPMs, and issue with hard shifting is only between 2nd and 3rd. Have already done fluid change; did not change.
Thank you.

I read somewhere that a faulty VSS will put the transmission into limp home mode??
Where the transmission is stuck in third gear until the VSS is replaced??
Not sure about this.
As Oshawan said in his topic transmission, a transmission shifting solenoid could be the culprit?
