Default Thinking of Buying??

Ok I found a used 2009 Touring for $15,900K with only 4,600 miles..is it a good car & good deal..I currently have an '03 PT Cruiser that has been very good to me,,& still runs & rides great but has 90k miles & is do for some major servicing.(timing belt,tune-up-trans service(total about $1600).(any thoughts?)(--like the hatchback & size of the Hyundai.Touring but unsure on what to expect?.( I own a 2008 Accent which has been good so far but only 28k miles,,)..all opinions welcome.thanks mjb

If you can afford it, why not buy a new one and get the longer warranty?

4,600 miles hardly taps the warranty. I wouldnt use that as a justification for buying a new one. A 2009 model is essentially an 2011 SE w/out leather...Im sure you could work that 15,900 down some, too. The used imo seems like a much better value.

Let me disclaim right off the bat that my 09 touring is a total POS from an assembly perspective Otherwise, Ill try to be as unbiased as possible.

The interior space is tough to beat. Its a well laid out vehicle with plenty of space that a family of four can take on vacation. It handles well. Mileage is as advertised. Sound system is above average.

Things I caveat- Electric steering may take a bit getting used to. Engine/ cabin noise and vibration are quite excessive, imo. I also dont like that the accessories slow down/dim too much at base idle.

Default Worth Buying ? Wow

2 different opinions... I usually keep for a bit but want quality---my Accent is fine but was cheap to buy so.. would you buy a Touring Elantra again?

Go for the new one, current incentives are 3.9% financing and $500 rebate. My 2011 is a lot of fun to drive, it's the GLS version (better seats) w/popular options package. Had it since January with over 2500 miles on it, lots of room, comfortable seats. No negative comments right now, but went through the coldest winter in years with no squeaks or rattles. Gas mileage is averaging around 26.5 all around right now. I have no issues with the electric steering, feels like the regular hydraulic steering to me, but if you test drive, go for about 10 miles and run it through the ringer.

I,m new to this forum but wanted to put my two cents in. I bought a 2011 Touring SE for my wife about a month ago and I liked it so well I bought another a week later. Her's was new with just a few miles on it. Mine is GLS model and was a dealer service vehicle (basically a dealer loaner car) with 2600 miles on it. Got a heck of a deal on it with full warranty. They drive great, lots of room, look good, great warranty, fun to drive. We wanted a wagon style car and checked out other makes of cars but were sold on the Touring after driving it. Both are automatics and we both have about 20 mile commutes to work through the week. We are getting a little over 26 mpg. Alot of car for the money. We really like them.

I highly doubt it. Its not just the dissatisfaction with the vehicle- but Im not overly impressed with the way Hyundai has handled my concerns.

If you do go new- I do not recommend the SE- because youre not getting a "better" car, i.e. an improved engine/tranny. Just not worth the money imo. Thats why I say the 09 would be a good buy with so few miles- its essentially a 2011 SE- sans leather. Same powertrain, too.

GL with your decision. Let us know what you buy! Mines an automatic, btw

Since I've only had my vehicles a month I don't have any experience with Hyundai handling any concerns. I can say my local dealer has treated me well. As I mentioned earlier, my second 2011 Touring was a dealer loaner with 2600 miles on it and with a 2001 Honda CRV (it needed some work and tires) trade-in and a $500 rebate I got the Touring for $12,500. My wife's Touring is a SE and has all the bells and whistles but the dealer knocked off a little over $3000 off the sticker. I did buy the extended warranty on both cars which I feel is worth the cost.
