Poor Gas Mileage?
Hi all,
My first post!
07 Limited, 129K miles, gets only about 11-13 in-town mileage since we got it a few months ago. Is that typical? It's rated 16 city/23 highway per my research.
I just gave it it's first (for me) oil change with 0W-30 Mobile1, plan on giving it an Iridium spark plug change since it came with no maintenance records but runs smooth and the fluids and all looked good when I bought it and everything looked nice from a shade-tree mechanic's point of view.
If this gas mileage isn't typical of my fellow forum members, any ideas ro rectify? I love this vehicle, except for the gas mileage I'm experiencing.
Best regards,
Lou

I have a 2006 Kia Sedona (twin to the Entourage) and my wife gets about 12 to 14 mpg in mostly city driving. Over the 3 years we've had it, the average is 14.5 mpg. Had a high of 22.9 and a low of 11.6 mpg.
Sorry to say but what you are seeing is normal.

In Hybrid Systems a lot of components are involved in fuel consumption. You have your engine side and you have your electric motor side(some of them). In hybrid cars the more your car runs on electric motor the more you get higher mileage but you cant always run your car on electric motor as the batteries on which the electric motor runs need to be charged and since hybrids are not like electric vehicles where you can charge your batteries yourself they have to rely on some other mechanism usually electric energy generated from brakes. There are few conditions that need to be met for the car to switch to Electric motor from Engine and start using the stored electricity in the batteries.
