Default 2004 Santa Fe with bad am/fm radio

Hi I am new to this site. I have a 2004 Santa Fe. The Dealer in Nanuet, NY has checked the radio at least three times and "can't find a problem". The problem is that the radio has no reception and alot of static on both am and a little on fm. This radio has not be good from the start. It has a in the glass antenna. I live in the Metro NYC area with many strong stations on AM and FM. My wife uses the car more then me. She is going nuts because she can not get the traffic reports. I went so far as to ask the dealer to install a outside antenna. They refused. I called Hyundai customer support, and all they say is that the dealers are independent. Does anyone know if this vehicle has had a history of bad radios? Any ideas on getting help? Hyundai customer support does not appear to be of help. This should be under the great warranty. Other then the radio the vehicle has been good.

You might want to confront them with TSB Bulletin #: 0460003 Sequence #: 10007545. If you can get your hands on this bulletin (Hyundai used to give full access to the TSB's, but no longer[:@]) then you should be able to wring them a bit. Our dealer told us that the first Santa Fe's that came out with the glass antenna's really sucked, and they started changing them soon afterwards (only the first half of the Santa Fe's in 2004 had the glass antenna's) - there is actually a small kit that includes the window and the antenna that attaches to the top of the car. BTW, great aftersales service from your dealership!

How many miles on vehicle? Couple things I would try. First swap radios from another vehicle. Then check the resistance of the antenna in glass am and fm. Tets the amp located on roof by the glass. The last one I have had problems with personally. The actual antenna coax . I had one fight me tooth and nail and it was the coax. You have to test ,test and test. Buit the problem can be solved. If they wont help get a dealer who will fix it for you.

I owned a 2003 Sante fe and now a 2005 Sante fe and when I am driving with the radio on and sometimes off I hear statis that sounds like it comes from the front speakers. I took it into the dealer and they did not confirm this. If that is what you are talking about I think that is something with the radio system.......

Anyone ever have that problem fixed?
