Default 2004 SF 3.5 LX gas mileage

MY SF has about 204k mi. Runs great, but fuel consumption is off for in town driving. Water temp is reading slightly higher than in lower mileage days.

Could this be an engine timing issue?

I just got 19mpg on a trip with our recently acquired '04 3.5. That tankful gave us 308 miles, and the low fuel light did not come on. A week ago, we ran out of fuel at 297 miles with stop and go driving. Our previous '03 2.7 would go MUCH further after the light came on, but still averaged little better than 20mpg. The '03 did this consistently from day one to the day it died due to a 17 yr old girl talking on her phone pulling out in front of us- crunch!- with 216,000 miles on it. This '04 we just got has 83K on it and just passed NYS emission inspection- so it seems to be running properly.

What are you getting?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply/info.

My 2004 is currently getting 12-15 around town and 20+ on the highway, pending uphill/downhill. I've gotten as much as 25 on the open road down hill. I changed the fuel filter about 15k mi ago and it has fairly new plugs and timing belt. Not sure if cleaning the injectors would help. I have had no issues with the fuel light coming on and seems to be doing OK.
