Default 2005 Santa fe and Belt question

I have an 05 Santa fe and i love it..very good vehicle for me and my family. We go to some remote areas and often requires the use of the 4WD system and am very happy with it! My question has to do with the belts. IN heavy rain, there is a squeal coming from the engine....does this mean the belts are wearing down? I am at 65,000 and am getting the service done next week, do you think they will replace that? its about 850.00 to change timing belt and whatever else is included and i will get it done.

THanks in advance

The belt squeal you're hearing is probably from the drivebelt, which
when wet may cause a squealing noise. The timing belt is something
different. At your mileage you're due for both to be replaced if you
haven't already done so.

The over $800 quote you have is in line with having the timing belt
changed, which is much more complicated than having the drive
belt done.

You do not state which engine you have, but 4WD is the 2.7 or the 3.5..

If you paying for timing belt replace, your facility should tell you to replace the drive belt(s) when re-assemble, should only be extra for the part(s), as need to put something back on when re-assemble.

Belts is rubber, rubber when exposed to heat over time makes them hard,,, thus they lose their friction co-efficient, so they not grip and slip instead.

2.7 has 1 long drive belt,,, the 3.5 has 2 drive belts --> 1 runs A/C - Alternator, 2nd runs the steering pump.

On the 3.5, I take a 3M 80 grit disc and scuff the A/C - Alt belt ider pulley to put new finish on it, instead of the old glazed/polished surface.

I guess engine size would matter . its the 2.7 4WD and that is good to know about the belts and plan on replacing both Aug 2nd as its driven harder than most daily drivers.

Thanks for the replies!

$800 for a timing belt sounds high, especially if it is a 2.7 L. The 3.5 L is generally more expensive as it is more difficult to replace. I just replaced one on a 2005 3.5 L at a CT. Hyundai dealer and it was $595 plus tax.

well i am in the ripoff state capital...CHICAGO so it wont matter where i go and will all be the same. I could go out of county and save 10.00 in taxes but then ill spend that in gas...850.00 is fair for all fluids, timing and plugs replaced IMO. It cost me 400.00 just to get plugs done on my van so its all good on price which was NOT one of my concerns
