Default 2007 Santa Fe theft-alarm question

Hello all, new to the forum. I just bought a 2007 Santa Fe and am unsure of a feature.

If the theft-alarm is armed, the ONLY way I am able to enter my car without the alarm sounding is opening the doorusing the remote transmitter, but NOT the ignition key. I asked the Hyundai Service guy about this and he said that’s the way it works. Surely this can’t be right; what happens if the remote’s battery fails? I’ve tried both of the keys that came with the car. Reading from my Owners Manual: the alarm will be activated if a door is opened without the transmitter or the ignition key.

Thanking you in advance for any advice . . .

I have a 2007 also, and when my alarm is set, and I use my key to unlock the door, it deactivates the alarm....Obviously you service techician is opting for the easy way out.......
