Default AC Question For The Group

Have a 2005 Santa Fe with 4,500 miles. It has the "auto" climate control feature. I took it in for my "free" oil change and told them that I suspect that the AC stays on all the time. I have the "mode" set to the single fan speed, the auto indicator is off, the temp selected to 65 with an ambient temp of 60 and the AC button not illuminated. Even with all of the above it "feels" like the AC compressor is cycling. I told the service writer it may all be in my head but he agreed to check it out. I got it back with the invoice stating that the "system is operating as designed". Convinced me it was my imagination. But why then is there a puddle of clear liquid pooling under the evaporator? Is the system "designed" to run without my control?

Thanks for your replies!!
