Default Broken spring

My neighbor has a 2003 Santa Fe V-6 two wheel drive with 68k miles. Recently he found that the left front coil spring had broken and pierced the tire. This occurred while the car was parked.

I asked a friend at a local Hyundai dealer and he told me that he had heard of several cases of this happening, one while parked also.

We havbe a 2004 Santa Fe 4 cyl. two wheel with 46k miles. Should I be concerned ?

Never heard of that. I'd say it's a fluke.

Seen (3) of them in the past couple yr, front spring will break, displace and usually drag inside of wheel, or cut tire.

I had 1 that destroyed the steel brake tube coming out of engine compartment to the wheel well... This car was warranty, they paid me to fab a tube until OE Hyundai part came from Korea, took about a month or so to get tube, then they also paid for replacement of fabbed tube with OE part when it arrived.

Instructor had asked class if we was seeing front springs break ....
