Default Funky, musty, air smell?

Hey all!

I took my 05 Santa Fe to the dealer a couple of weeks ago to fix two things: 1 - a funky, musty, mildewy smell from the air con 2 - almost every time I (or any of my passengers) exits the car, we get shocked...and it's not the nice little tingly kind.

I left it with the dealer all day so I requested the oil change as well. When I picked it up, they hadn't done a thing. They said that the smell issue is probably mildew buildup on the evaporator and that it's not covered by warranty. They suggested that I run the air from outside with A/C off. They suggested that I spray the seats with static guard because they couldn't reproduce the problem - ALL DAY (all it takes is one short drive and exit the car to do this). They also didn't do the oil change - can't do anything about that here, but just wanted to mention it.

So it's been a couple of weeks. I've followed their instructions for the air smell issue. And the smell persists - almost like it's aware that I'm trying to defeat it - lol - it comes back with avengance.

Has anyone seen or heard of this? I've tried several things, nothing's worked, and I get very emerassed when I have passengers.

Thanks for the help!

ok first go out and buy an anti fungal spray for the air con (all good motor factors sell them). and follow the instructions on the can. as for the electro shock you can get earthing strips from shops that will help.[8D]

OK, now you have my concern. I just posted a question about my 05' AC system that may be related. It seems that the compressor runs all the time in my case and I would assume that the evaporator would be wet all the time. I'm wondering if I'm heading towards that same musty smell, I only have 4,500 miles on the truck today.

Regardless of how my Lysol I use in the car or vents..it comes back!!!
Anti-fungal cleaner? Where do you spray the stuff? In the vents or is there some area I need to access under the hood..?
Everyone I know with this Hyundai has a smell.. it seems to be common..
